Private by design. This tool uses your browser’s built-in JSON functions. Your input stays on this device unless you choose to copy or share it.

About JSON Escape & Unescape

JSON strings use backslash escapes for characters such as quotation marks, backslashes, and line breaks. This tool wraps escaped text as a valid JSON string. In unescape mode, paste a complete JSON string value, including its surrounding double quotes.

How to use this tool

  1. Paste or type your content into the input panel.
  2. Choose Escape text to run the operation in your browser.
  3. Review the result, then use Copy to place it on your clipboard.
Helpful tip: Escaping text creates a string value; it does not convert an arbitrary object or array into a JSON document.

Frequently asked questions

Is my JSON uploaded when I use this tool?+

No. The operation runs on this page in your browser. Toolbox does not receive the text you paste into the input area.

Does this check whether my data is correct for my app?+

The tool checks or transforms JSON syntax. It does not know your application’s schema or business rules, so valid JSON can still have missing or unexpected fields.

What syntax does a JSON document allow?+

Standard JSON requires double-quoted strings and property names. It supports objects, arrays, numbers, booleans, and null, but not comments or trailing commas.
